Wednesday’s match is vital – Ferrari

Rafael Ferrari, head of the Honduras Selection Committee is a happy man. He has much to be grateful for after witnessing his boys come from behind to beat Canada 2-1 in a World Cup encounter last Saturday. Honduras will host Jamaica on Wednesday.

“It’s a historic victory. Canada has always been a tough rival and after not being able to beat them after 20 years and being behind almost from the start makes it even sweeter,” said an emotional Ferrari. “The guys played very well and demonstrated that they can get what the want if they put their shoulder to the wheel.”

“This win is vital because they are a direct rival. On Wednesday we could be much more nearer to qualifying if we are able to get the three points from the Jamaicans. Canada and Jamaica are our direct rivals and we have to beat them to be in the next round, therefore on Wednesday we expect a stadium full of fans that are there to support our team.”

Ferrari ended by saying that there are still many things to improve and the fans should not start blowing their horn after the win; although Honduras are in second position in Group B.

“We have to keep both feet on the ground. We should not believe that we have qualified. We should move little by little. The problem here is that with one win we lose perspective. We must work to win the game on Wednesday. It’s time to make use of home advantage,” concluded the head of the Selection Committee.

Meanwhile, Jamaica arrived in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on Sunday on a direct flight from Mexico. They will use the extra days to rest and prepare for Wednesday’s encounter which will be pivotal in deciding the fate of both teams. A win or a tie would place the Reggae Boyz on firm footing with the final three games of the round to be played at home. A loss would place severe pressure on the team to win all three home games.

However, before thinking about Wednesday’s game, the medical staff will be working feverishly to get experienced defender Ian Goodison in condition to play. The 35 year old was viciously tackled by Mexican captain Rafael Marquez in Saturday’s game where the lost 0-3. Midfielder Demar Phillips is out after getting his second yellow card.

The game against Honduras is scheduled for 8:30pm Jamaica time and JamaicaWin.com will provide LIVE TEXT coverage starting from 8:00pm. Click into the Jamaica vs Honduras button on homepage and post your views of the last game and your thoughts on what should happen on Wednesday.
