Tyrone Marshall would be the only
worry for coach Rene Simoes as he prepares the Boyz to tackle
Canada on Wednesday in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at the BMO
Field in Toronto.
Marshall was expected to undergo
a fitness test last evening as he races against time to take his
place in the line up.
Marshall, an influential defender
in technical director Rene Simoes' set up, suffered a partial quad
tear to his left leg on Saturday, August 10 in the MLS, according
to the Jamaica Observer. He was dropped from his club team's squad
which traveled to New York for its game against the Red Bulls on
Sunday, because he felt unease during a try out in training.
Marshall visited the Reggae Boyz's hotel on Sunday night and was
examined by team doctor Charlie Roberts. He returned home and was
under physiotherapy treatment from his club.
"He should come to training this
evening (last evening) for a final fitness test and a decision on
his status," noted Dr Roberts yesterday.
"He is close enough to manage a
game, but we will have to subject him to the test to find out
whether the level of discomfort is tolerable," added the team's
doctor.
He added that the injury is a
partial quad tear which took place some time ago, but he advised
that the injury was healing, based on his examination on Sunday
night.
Marshall, who plays for Toronto
FC, which has its artificial surface home ground at the BMO Field,
the venue of tomorrow's 7:30 pm (6:30 pm Jamaica time) game, is
said to be eager to play, "once he can manage".
Marshall's injury concerns apart,
all but one player - Luton Shelton of Norway's Valerenga - has
joined the camp. Shelton was expected in Toronto last night.
Captain Ricardo Gardner, Ian
Goodison and Deon Burton arrived in Toronto Sunday night and were
expected to train with the rest of the team at the BMO last night.
But prior to the training
session, the Reggae Boyz delegation was invited to a 'meet and
greet' occasion by the Jamaican high commission and the Jamaica
Canada Association (JCA) at the JCA's headquarters.
The team practised at the St
Michael's College School on Saturday and Sunday, as they tried to
acclimatise themselves to the artificial surface.
