Top Mexican goalkeeper, Oswaldo Sanchez, was arrested in Chicago on Sunday night.

According to the Mexican media, after the game against Peru where Mexico won 4-0, Sanchez was arrested for drunkenness and noise pollution, but he was later freed after paying a US $1000 fine.

Although he will not go to prison, the player runs the risk of losing his US Visa which would force him lout of the World Cup qualifier against Belize in Houston on Sunday.

"I take responsibility for the situation, "said Sanchez. "I was in a restaurant with my wife and we had a bottle of wine but I was not drunk. They detained me because I am the captain of the team." He said that he is unable to sleep after games and would listen to music throughout the night. "They called the police and they detained me".

Mexico will begin their World Cup campaign against Belize on Sunday with the return game set for Monterrey on Sunday, June 21.
