USA DEFEAT COSTA RICA FOR
CONCACAF CROWN; CANADA TAKE THIRD
The USA won the 2008 CONCACAF
Women's Under-17 Championship by defeating Costa Rica, 4:1, in the
final at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Trinidad & Tobago on 27
July.
Tani Costa scored twice, while
Kristen Mewis and Courtney Verloo each added another for the Stars
& Stripes as they claimed the inaugural CONCACAF Women's U-17
title.
Costa Rica and the USA, who had
already qualified to the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup New Zealand
2008, will also be joined by Canada as the third Confederation
representative.
Tiffany Cameron scored the
game-winner for Canada as they defeated Mexico, 1:0, in the
third-place match in Macoya.
FIFA conducted a draw on Monday
to determine in which groups Canada and Costa Rica would compete
at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2008. Canada were drawn into
Group A that consists of Colombia, Denmark and the hosts, New
Zealand, while Costa Rica are in Group B that has Germany, Korea
DPR and Ghana.
The CONCACAF Champion, USA were
placed in Group C along with France, Japan and Paraguay.
Meanwhile, Group D has Brazil, England, Korea Republic and
Nigeria, rounding out the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup
that will run from 28 October -16 November in four venues in New
Zealand: Auckland, Hamilton, Christchurch, Wellington.
CANADA'S IMPACT DE MONTREAL
PROGRESS TO CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE™
The Impact de Montréal progressed
to the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League™ after winning the
Canadian Qualifier (Nutrilite Canadian Championship) following a
1:1 draw against the hosts, Toronto FC at BMO Field on 22 July.
Montréal will now face Real
Esteli FC of Nicaragua in a home-and-away Preliminary Round Series

The Impact are the first Canadian
club to participate in a Confederation Tournament since Toronto
Italia competed in CONCACAF Champions' Cup™ in 1976.
ARUBA END LOSING STREAK WITH DRAW
AGAINST NETHERLANDS ANTILLES AT CARIBBEAN QUALIFIER
Aruba ended a 12-game losing
streak as they played to a scoreless draw against the hosts,
Netherlands Antilles in Group A of the Digicel Caribbean
Championship 2008, which is the qualifier to the 2009 CONCACAF
Gold Cup™, at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad on Sunday (27
July).
Aruba, who had replaced Dominica
in Group A and arrived the day of the match, earned their first
tie since 18 March 2000 when they drew 2:2 against Puerto Rico in
San Juan.
The first of five opening round
groups in the Digicel Caribbean Championship continues on Tuesday
as Grenada face Aruba. Group A concludes two days later with the
Netherlands Antilles hosting Grenada.
The other four first round groups
will take place in Guyana (Group B), Cayman Islands (Group C), St.
Kitts & Nevis (Group D) and Martinique (Group E) from 4 August -

The five group winners along with
the four best second-place teams will be placed into three groups
hosted by Guadeloupe, Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago from 11 October -
9 November.
The top two teams from each
second round group (six teams) will join the defending Caribbean
champion Haiti and the hosts Jamaica in the final round in
December. The top four teams from the Digicel Caribbean
Championship will qualify to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup™.
CONCACAF TEAMS TO COMPETE AT 2008
OLYMPIC GAMES NEXT MONTH
The men's teams of Honduras and
USA along with the women's squads from Canada and USA will compete
next month in the Football Tournaments at the 2008 Olympic Games
that will run from 6-23 August in Beijing, China.
Men's Tournament: Honduras are in
Group D in the 16-team competition, alongside Cameroon, Italy and
Korea Republic. The Catrachos are appearing in their second Summer
Games and first since 2000. The USA, who are making their 13th
trip to the Olympic Games (a CONCACAF record), are in Group B and
will compete against Japan, Netherlands and Nigeria.
Two teams from each of the four
groups will progress to the quarterfinals on 16 August, with the
winners advancing to the semifinals three days later.
The bronze medal game between the
two semifinal losers is scheduled for 22 August, while the
following day, the two finalists will meet for the gold medal.
Women's Tournament: Canada are
making their first appearance in the competition and will meet
Argentina, Sweden and the hosts, China in Group E, while the
defending gold medalists, USA, who have qualified for all four
Summer Games (1996-2008), are in Group G along side Japan, New
Zealand and Norway.
The women's football tournament
has three groups of four. The top two teams from each group along
with two best third-place finishers progress to the quarterfinals
on 15 August with the semifinals set for three days later.
The women's bronze and gold medal
matches are scheduled for 21 August.

CONCACAF will have a total of 15
Referees officiating at the Men's and Women's Football Tournaments
at the 2008 Olympic Games.
Men's

Along with the referees, the
Olympic Football Tournament will also have several officials
appointed from the CONCACAF region to the FIFA Delegation
responsible for organizing the event.
Yolanda Camacho-Kortman (Costa
Rica), Victor Daniel (Grenada) and Julio Rocha (Nicaragua) are
members of the Organizing Committee, while Lisle Austin (Barbados)
is part of the FIFA Referee Committee.
Dr. Bert Mandelbaum (USA) is a
member of the Sports Medical Committee, and April Heinrichs (USA)
is part of the Technical Study Group, while Larry Mussenden
(Bermuda) will chair the Appeals Committee.
Rafael Tinoco (Guatemala) has
been appointed as one of the FIFA General Coordinators, while Tom
King (USA) and Steven Torres (USA) were selected as Assistant
General Coordinator and FIFA Media Officer, respectively.
JAMAICA CLAIM GROUP B CROWN IN
CARIBBEAN U-20
Jamaica claimed first-place at
the Caribbean First Round Group B Qualification to the 2009
CONCACAF Under-20 Championship held at the Truman Bodden Sports
Complex in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands from 23-27 July 2008.
The Reggae Boyz earned the
maximum nine points winning all three of their matches starting
with a 1:0 victory win over Puerto Rico on 23 July, before topping
Bermuda by a score of 4:0 two days later and then defeating the
hosts, Cayman Islands 3:0 on 27 July.
Jamaica will join the other first
round group winners Antigua & Barbuda (Group E), Haiti (Group A),
St. Kitts & Nevis (Group C) and St. Vincent & The Grenadines
(Group D) as well as with four best second-place finishers: Aruba,
Dominican Republic, Grenada and Netherlands Antilles; in the
Caribbean Second Round which will consist of three groups of three
scheduled for September 2008.
The top team from each triangular
along with the best second-place team will progress to the
Caribbean Final Round scheduled for November 2008.
Trinidad & Tobago will host the
CONCACAF Under-20 Championship which is tentatively scheduled for

EL SALVADOR TIE JAMAICA IN FRIENDLY; HAITI VISIT TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
In preparation for the semifinal
round of 2010 CONCACAF World Cup Qualification, El Salvador played
Jamaica to a scoreless draw in an international friendly at Pizza
Hut Park in Frisco, Texas USA on 27 July.
El Salvador will now travel to
Washington D.C.'s RFK Stadium to face Trinidad & Tobago on 14
August.
Meanwhile, Trinidad & Tobago will
host Haiti at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya on 30 July.
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO TO HOST 2008
CFU YOUTH CUP
Trinidad & Tobago will host the
annual Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Youth Cup with the
participation of 21 Under-17 National teams in the 2008 event,
which runs from 31 July - 10 August.
The 2008 CFU Youth Cup, which
will double as the Caribbean Qualification to the 2009 CONCACAF
Under-17 Championship, will have six groups playing in five venues
in Trinidad & Tobago during the first round: Fatima College
Ground; Guaracara Park; St. Mary's College Ground; Tobago;
University of the West Indies Field.
The six group winners along with
two best second-place finishers will progress to the quarterfinals
on 6 August. The semifinals and finals will take place at the
Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya on 8 and 10 August, respectively.
The winner and runner-up from the
CFU Youth Cup will progress to the CONCACAF U-17 Championship that
